MATERIALS
The idea of soft goods may sound mysterious to most but for us it’s how we experience the world around us. From the surface of a product to the inner workings of technology and engineering, materials inform and support how life is lived. This is the language we speak, think and dream in.
Materials are the foundation of how a product is created and help shape every stage of the design process in our studio. What you see is the result of our sustained collaboration with factories, industry advancements in materials, cutting-edge compounds, and a well-trained eye for what makes a material successful in the market. Our design team enjoys every step of the process equally but it’s in sketching where you’ll find the ideas flow best. Before we can present a set of possibilities this process provides the necessary brain dump for our team to collaborate and share research, strategies and inspirations.
Where investigation meets the articulated mind, we believe the best way to begin is with graphite and paper, scraps of material and anything we can get our hands on. For advanced material exploration sketching may look more like sheets of equations and formulas. From here we move quickly into computer modeling and calculations that form a base for prototyping.

PROTOTYPING
The ugly duckling of our process brings concepts into reality. Things get messy so we can work through details and find solutions to problems without constraint. We find the most breakthroughs in this unrefined mentality. Seeing the transformation during this stage is very exciting and takes place in various venues.
We prototype in our studio, workshops, with local fabricators and with our factory partners in Asia. The scale and complexity of each project will determine the venue we use for this very fun experimental stage. Unafraid of the raw forms, we enjoy sharing this stage with you for a hands on understanding of development and innovation as we iterate on ideas together.4.
ITERATING
Working in our world means knowing that with each successful product required numerous iterations. We are testing, learning, breaking and re-making. We generate multiple versions as quickly as possible, incorporating user input until no details remain to solve for. With each iteration these details become clearer and more refined. The combination of prototypes and user feedback brings the solution to light.
This stage is critical for discovering the equilibrium between budget, material and form by flushing out areas of friction through trial and error. The process is not always linear but always shows us what we don’t know, closing the gap on unforeseen issues.5.
COMPLETION
The benefit of doing business together starts and finishes with our factory partnerships. Your product is in the best of hands through sketching, prototyping and iterating with our studio, all you have to do is place the order. It sounds this easy because it is. We work closely with the factory at each stage so that when the final designs are approved everything is set for production and ready to ship.
